UR Signs MoU with ICTP to become a Partner Institute
The partnership agreement was signed on 30th March, 2017 by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Philip Cotton on behalf of University of Rwanda (UR) and the Director of the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) Fernando Quevedo on behalf of ICTP. The main objective of this partnership is to foster the advancement of basic Sciences in East-African countries and the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP/Trieste-Italy.) The Institute operates in theoretical and other areas of physics with the intent that it will gradually expand its activities into other related areas.
ICTP is a Cutting edge research education and training centre.
For more than 50 years, the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) has been a driving force behind global efforts to advance scientific expertise in the developing world.
Founded in 1964 by the late Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam, ICTP seeks to accomplish its mandate by providing scientists from developing countries with the continuing education and skills that they need to enjoy long and productive careers. ICTP has been a major force in stemming the scientific brain drain from the developing world.
